1st, 10th August – Santo Domingo

Managua goes crazy for the start and finish of the great Santo Domingo festival, one of the largest parades the city sees all year! The truly faithful make their pilgrimage but expect to see all kinds of other characters that will be marching in the street.

The black painted men, those dressed in devil costumes, people dancing and chanting and the icing on the cake will be the little saint in a giant boat pulled by a tractor. It’s a strange hybrid tradition that is much loved and engaged by the population.

This celebration starts on the 1st with the big march from one church to another and ends on the 10th when he returns in the same fashion. If you are going to be around Managua on either of these days it will definitely be worth checking out!
