24 October – Los Aguizotes in Masaya
Although they say this one has nothing to do with Halloween, it happens on the last weekend of the month which falls on the 24th this year. And what a devilish time it is.
The revelers meet in the Plaza de la iglesia Magdelena and march around the town scaring kids and old ladies until at least midnight. Expect to see the stuff of nightmares: devils with giant horns, axe-wielding ogres, mothers with half-aborted babies hanging out, live vultures on a stick, spray-paint torches lighting up the night, headless priests, skeletons dragging chains and much, much, much more. Along with the Torovenado, this is as strange as it gets. Scare yourself half fun with us!
